Some interesting observations from the UK MOD

In its latest update, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) wrote: "The Russian state is struggling to maintain consistency in a core narrative that is used to justify the war: that the invasion is analogous with the Soviet experience of the Second World War.
"On April 18, 2023, Russian state media announced the cancellation of this year's Immortal Regiment Great Patriotic War remembrance marches on safety grounds.
"In reality, the authorities were highly likely concerned that participants would highlight the scope of recent Russian losses."

The update points to the leader of the Wagner Group Yevgeny Prigozhin whose mercenaries are locked in a bloody battle against Ukrainian forces in the city of Bakhmut questioning the narrative about Russia rooting out Nazis

Yeah, a drunk driver was not the first thing that people thought of when the truck disappeared. They were really worried that some foreign power might have hijacked it.
Speaking of drunk drivers:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said his country's main task is recapturing territory occupied by Russia. Meanwhile, Latvia has said it will give all its Stinger missiles to Ukraine. DW has the latest.

Except that the United Kingdom recognised the PRC as the government of China in 1950.
That does not diminish the fact that the Republic of China was the official government that succeeded Imperial China AND was the government that administered China during and shortly after WWII.

Just because the Communists tried to overthrow the RoC doesn't mean that it no longer exists.

Seeing as how the communist Chinese government never actually ever governed Formosa/Taiwan, I think Xi's claims might not be valid.
At the close of WWII, China was at the time, controlled (by and large) by the Republic of China under Chaing Kai-Shek.

The Chinese civil war forced the government to move from the mainland to Formosa in 1949, but it never capitulated.

What happened to the RoC government would be similar to several nations during WWII, who's government's were relocated as the Germans over ran their countries.
