General Ivan Popov is reported to have disappeared following the publication of his highly critical remarks about the conduct of the war in southern Ukraine. He said earlier that he had been dismissed after criticising the Russian senior military leadership.

From what I saw his main complaint was the lack of counter battery fire and ammunition which was resulting in the death of many Russian troops who didn't have a chance. Also the lack of counter battery Radars to identify and locate the Ukraine weapons

In addition there was a posting a few days ago, that went into considerable detail about Russia effectively running out of high grade metal for new gun barrels and other specialist uses. This in turn was forcing a greater reliance on mortars which have a much shorter range and are generally towed. Which result in a severely degraded counter battery capability and heavier losses.

Put the two together and it really is possible that Russia is losing the Artillery war, the backbone of their forces.

Instead of waves of media dumps can you tell us why you're posting this, what message are you conveying, what do you think of this media article? You're certainty driving up your post count, but what do you want us to take away?

Imagine this was a forum discussing restaurants, and all someone did was post media articles about the price of ingredients? Are they for a potato price increase, or against it? What's the context.

He will speak for himself, but what I get from it is that he's trying to present balanced news, including Ukrainian losses too. I appreciate it, myself, as it gives me lanes to search if it perks my curiosity,

I appreciate his posts here. Thank you for the postings GTX. Sort of a heads up of various articles or posts bearing on the Ukraine war - informative and useful. I'm not here to argue either, rather to learn and share a few things.

Building on the above, there's a good article in the Times today where they interviewed a Ukrainian Artillery officer on the front line at Bahkmut. In the article the officer stated that in the beginning Russia were firing between two and three thousand shells a day, recently there was parity or to use his words, one in and one out. Now the Russian guns are relatively quiet.

I know this is one snippet, in one small part of the war, but there does seem to be a pattern developing.

He also showed the reporter one area outside the town where the Russians seemed to suddenly give way and they advanced 2Km in three days. Ukraine hold nearly all the hills around the town. He also said that his troops were more comfortable as some of them are in defences built by Ukraine in 2014 that had been captured by Russia and recaptured by Ukraine. Finally Ukraine have no intention of trying to capture the town, the losses would be huge. They are happy to sit outside and effectively keep the Russian under siege.

I'm not US cityzen, but I guess somehow you are indirectly trying to make a poll (a rather small one by the way) . Maybe those relatively recent ones (June 2023) can provide a bigger picture:

In no way I was trying to do a poll, just getting some first hand opinion about a feeling.

Thanks for the share!

Maybe there are some retired ROLAND AA missile systems still around that may be brought back to life for use in Ukraine?
That's a name that takes me back. Right up there with the Rapiers the Brits deployed at the Falklands.
