I suggest they start with Finland or Poland. That stomping should be entertaining.
Russia is already ass-deep in alligators trying to drain the swamp. At this point I don't think they could fight off a common cold.
If only the Great Gazoo would put the idea of grabbing Vladivostok and the lost territory of Primorsky Krai into Xi's ear.

All that is true but the problem is that Putin's message is aimed at those in the west who will be easily scared by "the big bad bear with nukes" or those who really just want to allow Putin to do whatever he wants and will use this as an excuse.

Good 'ol Vlad - always the victim.

Start a war and gets angry when they fight back - how dare they!! (said in a screeching Greta Thurnberg voice)

Putin is seriously playing double jeopardy: provoking European neighbors while yelling that he's "ready for war" if they fight back.

Meanwhile, the Chinese are keeping a very close eye on Russia. China is no one's friend and most certainly would leap at the chance to take back what they lost back in the 1800's if Russia gets into a serious war in the West.

I honestly would not be surprised if the West approaches Xi and said "hey, leave Taiwan alone and we'll look the other way if you retake your old territories from Russia.

This is artical touches on the afore-mentioned Chinese territorial issue and is well written:
Russia's age of contraction

I would like watching Russia losing more of its empire (what's that German word for schadenfreude?). I would not like seeing Chinese bases on that coast. It would make a handy escape route for PLAN subs bypassing the current cordon. I think it's coming anyway.

South Korea has some excellent conventional hunter-killer subs, and is ideally placed to interdict PLAN's Manchurian bases and routing.

Until the 2010s, the Chinese threat was the topic actively discussed in the Russian Federation, in some media, in military circles and among military experts.
Nikita Mikhalkov (a very pro-Kremlin figure) published the video about the possible Chinese attack in 2016. I couldn't find the original, but copies remain on YT.

Notice how China launched an incursion on Zhenbao island in 1968, when the Soviets invaded Czechslovakia?
