I'm curious regarding approved load recommended for drone defense. My notion of steel 1 1/2 oz #4s in a 3" 3 dram load would be effective to maybe 6o yards to whack at least one rotor.

I'm not sure what the standard load would be, Bill, although a video at Funker showed Ukrainian forces downing Russian FPVs with a lomg barreled semi-auto shotgun running 3" mag. double-odd buck and a full choke.
It was working remarkably well.

I suspect they were geared up for really big (comparatively) drones 00 buck is 0.33in dia. Wonder if they used steel to get more pellets/higher velocity for the same diameter shot or lead for greater mass per pellet at impact. The barrel length would only matter depending on burn rate of the powder.

We had a bolt action Marlin goose-gun that had similar specs to what I mentioned above, except that it had a 36" barrel and we ran #8 bird-shot.
With a full choke, the pattern was ridiculously tight, even at 100 yards.
The Ukrainian SA shotgun appeared to have a barrel length of 28-30 inches.
Good question about shot composition - I suspect either lead or steel would do a good job on a drone's parts, especially since 3" #00 shells have 12 pellets and would saturate the target with a well aimed shot.
Personally, I hope I never have to be in a situation like that!
