HACKENSACK, N.J., Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Mechanical problems forced the pilot of a single-engine plane to make an emergency landing Monday on a highway in New Jersey, authorities said.

The pilot put the plane down in the eastbound lanes Route 80 about 2:50 p.m., the Hackensack Chronicle said. No one got hurt.

Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said in a statement the aircraft was operated by his office and was bound for Teterboro Airport when a fuel line malfunction left the pilot with no choice but to land on the highway. Molinelli said the plane is owned by the U.S. Department of Justice and was flown by a certified flight instructor and flight safety officer.

Their names were not released.

Molinelli said the highway might be closed to traffic when the plane is hauled away.
