Well, that's because the Americans weren't Bolsheviks. Nothing was impossible for the Bolsheviks - as they claimed themselves.Kind of difficult to pull off on the Tinian-Tokyo run.
The Soviets were not impressed of the P-51D performance up to 5000m at all. I am not sure that P-51D was equally efficient both in the West and in the East. And I'm not sure the theorizing will help in this case.
No argument from me for the P-51 series from 1944 onwards but the P-51D in 1945?
It's too far beyond my imagination.Imagine if it had black crosses on it?
I'm just saying in the historical context, at least in the ETO. I firmly believe there were aircraft in 1945 that were equal or had the potential to be better. Especially at certain conditions such as altitude, or when compared one on one and all things being equal. But historically that did not occur, and so at least in the ETO it was the best.
Nice answerWere I a 1945 fighter pilot I would vote for the Fiat CR 32: in Paraguay where there was no war…….
You'll be at a disadvantage if facing Argentina's fixed undercarriage Hawk 75O in the upcoming Paraguayan Civil War.Were I a 1945 fighter pilot I would vote for the Fiat CR 32: in Paraguay where there was no war…….
That would coincide with my holiday in Chile. You'll be at a disadvantage if facing Argentina's fixed undercarriage Hawk 75O in the upcoming Paraguayan Civil War.
I have no idea if they could have modified a single seat P-51 into a night fighter like the F6F-3N/5N or the Corsair night fighters. The TF-51D could have been modified easier than F7F or P-38M or F4U for night fighter role.
Who cares?
Each time interesting did discussions take, and some people learn something new.
If you don't care for a topic, stay out of it. Simple as that. No one is forcing you to take part in this "holy war."
I think Bill is onto something here, with the TP-51D as a nightfighter.I have no idea if they could have modified a single seat P-51 into a night fighter like the F6F-3N/5N or the Corsair night fighters.
Maybe there was enough room in cockpit, maybe there wasn't, Take one gun out of the wing with radar pod?
Not all radars were the same.
