In my castle....

Trying to find the code for JT613, while on HMS Formidable and belonging to 1842 Sqn and the business with Tirpitz....

Started with these from mid '44....

JT448: 'A'....
JT455: 'B'....
JT463: 'S'....
JT470: 'C'....
JT477: 'D'....
JT480: 'E'....
JT491: 'G'....
JT492: 'H'....
JT508: 'V'....
JT518: 'M'....
JT542: 'K'....
JT547: 'L'....
JT551: 'M' as well, at an earlier date, mid '44....
JT553: 'G', same again, as with JT491, but different dates....
JT554: 'Q' and 'U'....
JT561: 'J'....
JT585: 'J', later date from JT561....
JT590: 'P'....
JT594: 'Q'....
JT597: 'R'....
JT606: 'T'....
JT608: 'G', 'H'....
JT 613: '?', as it says, from Formidable, abortive attack on Tirpitz, strafed destroyers and escorts in Leir Botn, tail hit by bullets, 29/08/44....so, makes one wonder what code JT613 had, if each squadron, as I understand had 12 aircraft....

July '44....
Deployed with Home Fleet based at Scapa Flow.
On the 17th, launched unsuccessful air attacks on German battleship Tirpitz in Altenfjord, with aircraft carriers HMS Indefatigable and HMS Furious covered by HMS Duke OF York. Target was obscured by smoke screen after early warning of approach.

August '44....
August Home Fleet deployment in continuation.
Preparing for air attacks on TIRPITZ (Operation Goodwood Series).
On the 22nd, repeated air attacks on Tirpitz with HMS Furious, HMS Indefatigable and escort carrier Nabob. These were unsuccessful due to weather conditions.
On the 24th, further air attacks on Tirpitz with HMS Furious and HMS Indefatigable.
Two hits were reported.
On the 29th, unsuccessful air attacks on Tirpitz with HMS Indefatigable.
(Note : The lack of significant success by Fleet Air Arm attacks resulted in the decision to use heavy bombers for this task).
No official record of Battle Honour Norway 1944 can be traced for either....

....just a tad later than period that I'm looking for, but....
