Reading the thread on "ship busters" for ww II and the mention of B-25s with 75mm howitzers, that reminded me of this:

Has anyone else seen this before?

It's basically a CH-47C with two externally mounted forward firing 105mm howitzers.

Heck, I would have thought even one would knock the Chinook out of the sky if fired !

Got to admit never hearing about those soft-recoil howitzers, let alone they attempted installing them on the Chinook.

    In your face, A-10!

It's just a design study, they never actually did it.

I see a lot of concern about how much reinforcing they'd have to do of the fuselage to withstand the muzzle blast.

Is worth to mention that the XM204 105mm gun had "soft" recoil but fire a full power 105mm catrigde, the "softeness" in the backward force was given by a ingenious mechanism who fired then gun when the barrel is travelling forward. A excellent weapon for quick deploying forces, a bit expensive than a M102 obviously but with a lot of advantages, dunno why it wasnt put in production.
