I'm wondering if that bomber in the background is an early B-17, or the 299 prototype.
I can see the guy in the hat as an ex-WWI fighter pilot, saying to himself about the P-36, "that's a slick little number." =)

I remember my family drove past it on the freeway, en route to seeing my brother who was in Riverside back then.

The Orange Show Speedway is a quarter mile dirt track in San Bernardino.
Riverside International Speedway was just outside of Riverside in what is now Moreno Valley. Nearby development kept encroaching on the track until it was closed in '89 and a shopping mall took over the rest of the property.
Ontario Motor Speedway was right off I-10 in Ontario, and was a major venue for Indy, NASCAR and NHRA. It was bought out in 1980 for development.
