Don't know if many others have read this, but my local library had it a year or so ago and I gave it a try. It's a story from the perspective of a man who had been a tail gunner on a Lancaster, and ended up spending the last year of the war in a POW camp. It took me a while to get into but I ended up really liking this book, it actually almost brought me to tears at a few points when describing the Lancaster crew's relationships with each other and the losses that they all felt. It's not really an "action" story per se, but much more about the psychological effects (positive and negative) of combat flying. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a different perspective on the night bombing campaign combined with a deep narrative story!

Thanks a lot for the recommendation, i've read some of AL Kennedy's short stories, and will now chase this up.
