If only it was 5 years older....

I love the looks.. Imagine if it's predecessor had gone into production, dual twin-50 turrets, two man crew, double the helldiver loadout and better performance! I wonder why the navy changed their minds on it, because it would have certainly arrived in time to see a lot of combat.

The second photo shows the original design, which was a crewed aircraft (two crew members). The first flight of the prototype was April 8, 1943. But then the Navy asked for a redesign to a single seat attack aircraft, and the first flight of that prototype was March 5, 1944, and a contract was issued for 358 aircraft, but was cancelled after only 28 were completed, so it was not ready in time for combat in WWII. But lessons learned with the design were applied to future attack aircraft, like the Douglas AD Skyraider.
