I have been looking for this picture for some time and just found it this morning. Shots of crashed BF-109E in the BoB are often seen but the earlier models in a state of distress are much less common. It is labeled Norway 1941.

Bf 109 B-2 that belly landed 24.04.41 at Setningen/Sollia. Probably from Jagdgruppe Drontheim (school unit) who did not returned from a mission same day

Who are the guys mounting it in trumph? The ones who shot it down or the ones sent to recover it? Or just a group of picnickers who happened upon it and took selfies?

I agree that's the Dora variant. Berta didn't have the wing MGs installed. Here we can notice the dummy plugs of the slots for the MG barells.
It is the Gr.Drontheim /Jagdfliegerschule 3 Bf 109D-1 White65 WNr.2578. A few days later the aircraft was dismantled by the Germans and transported by horse and sledge to the railway station at Atna. It seems that the plane became a tourist attraction for local people from Buvollen by the time of transporting.

What happened to the BF-109, B, C, D variants after they were replaced by the E? Allied pilots reported encounter E models later in the war, but not the earlier variants. Were they sold to allies like Finland and Romania or what?
