Texas Queen , formerly "Black Boy", Ser. 44-67916 , Sq. designation TQ-G. The aircraft was taken on 49 missions and survived the war. My father flew this ship twice, and was in it on 2-14-45 over Engers, Germany Joe Stevens, Pilot, 559th Bomb Squadron, 387th Bomb Group, Martin B-26 Marauder pilot.

The book B-29 Hunters of the JAAF describes the "intense" study of downed American planes nose art, presumably to gain an insight into the soft decadent mind of the enemy (), by Japanese men of all ages.
I wonder what the WW2 German opinion was on American nose art…something tells me they held the frauleins in high regard.

That's not a B-26B. It's one of the first five B-26s delivered to the 22nd BG in 1941. Standard pre-war markings.
I believe 2nd Squadron color was red.

Great finds!

The white numbers on the nose indicate that the aircraft in most of these photos participated in the third round of B-26 service trials, where the last two digits of the serial number were used (1394 -> 94), with a 1 added if the serial number was over 1400 (1405 -> 105). I can't make them out in most of the photos, but in the top one that's clearly 105, meaning this is 40-1405 of the 18th RS/408th BS of the 22nd BG. The aircraft served with the 5th Air Force in Australia and was named Goosie Lucy. It was written off after a crash landing on May 20th, 1942.

All this information comes from Revenge of the Red Raiders, which also explains the origins of the aircraft's name. The book does not however provide more info about the crash. This is the first photo I've ever seen of 40-1405.
