Republic P-47D-5-RE Spirit of Atlantic City N.J. (56th FG, 63rd FS, *Lucky*) UN-M shot down by rear gunner of Do 217 Mar 27, 1944. 27-03-1944 Monday MACR 3440. Pilot Maj. Walker Mahurin evaded capture with help of French resistance and returned to UK May 7, 1944.

Republic P-47D-25-RE 42-26583 WZ-T My Baby II 84th FS, 78th FG, 8th AF shot down by AAA 2 km NW of Breteuil, France Jul 5, 1944. MACR 6561. Pilot killed.
WZ T, flown by Lt. William Newton of the 84th Fighter Squadron of the 78th Fighter Group of the 8th Air Force. He was shot down and declared KIA on July 5, 1944.

Killed in Action (KIA) 5 July 1944 in P-47D AC 42-26583 while on escort mission to Chateauroux, FR. Bounced by 6 ME109s at 12000 ft, at 1600hrs, with other ME109s joing in. Crashed close to Breteuil at 1557hrs (per German records).

Unfortuantely the markings on the tail can't be seen. But the proportions of the fuselage and underside roundels , the lack of the Sky band on the tail and the digit seen partailly on the fuselage before the intercooler exhaust door make me believing these are not the RAF Jugs but the French kites.
