The following 4 page document is just one piece of a much larger collection (Pictures & Papers) that belonged to Joe Hogan and Intelligence Office in the RAAF and now belongs to his Grandson Michael, a friend of mine. I have offered to scan the collection and share the collection so that others may enjoy the content.
I only read this for the first time yesterday as I scanned it and found it an amazing story that could easily have been the basis of a movie or book. And sure enough, after a google search, I found several links and a reference on Pacific Wrecks.
The first sentence says its all....
"The following report of remarkable escape of F/O R.A. GRAETZ shot down near BUT 20 May 44 has been made available by 71 Wing RAAF"
It is an amazing story. If your interested, this story is one of many featured in the book "Great air escapes" about RAAF aircrew in similar situations.
