I have read that the jettison landing gear was developed for the Ju 87C that was being built for the Graf Zeppelin.
Of course a lot of old books on German aircraft were less than accurate.
There was supposed to have been a photograph taken of a Ju 87C (?) with the landing gear "missing" infight that German propaganda claimed showed how strong the Stuka was.
They claimed the plane had done a low pull out while bombing a Polish ship and the landing gear was lost when the plane impacted the water while pulling out
I forget exactly why but the plane jettisoned the landing gear either for trials or do to an engine malfunction that cleared up before the plane ditched and it was able to make it back to a base?
No impact with water despite it being a good story (Caidin's German cousin?)
