The Schneider DFS 108-14 SG-38 Schulgleiter (School glider) is a German high-wing, cable-braced, single-seat primary glider that was designed by Schneider, Rehberg and Hofmann at Edmund Schneider's factory at Grunau in 1938, hence the designation. It was produced by several builders, including Deutsche Forschungsanstalt für Segelflug (DFS).

It was quite often the first or second glider Luftwaffe aircrew learned to fly in. I have a second kit (the "simple" version) to follow. Depending on how this one goes, I will do that as either the skeleton version (i.e. without the cockpit covers) or as the fully-open version, if I actually complete this one.

Yikes! The nightmare is over. I ended up doing the rigging wire three times, each time with thinner rod. This is the thinnest I can work with.
This is all I can handle. I left out the PE bits, and used the plastic bits where included.
The markings are simple and generic, as these gliders often did not receive markings other than the national markings on the tail.

I have developed a healthy respect for anyone doing wooden finishes and rigging.

Really great and unusual build! I wouldn't want to fly that thing, though.
Most Luftwaffe pilots started the journey to their wings on one of these- either without or with a wood-and-canvas "cockpit" area. As without was a wee bit more common, I went with that. I agree, it seems flimsy, but I suspect it was far stronger than it looks.
