manual transmissions are a good passive anti-theft device.

I had never thought of it that way, but both the cars I drive the most have manual transmissions. Leaving them parked in reverse probably would be as effective as taking the spark plug wires off.

That reminds me of some YouTube videos from years past, of people in Africa who tried to build their own planes without knowing anything about aeronautical engineering. Their efforts didn't end well.

Awww shucks....they've been flying cars every since I was an iddy-biddy boy watching the General Lee. They even mention having a parachute!

And got similar results. They used up eighty 1969 Dodge Chargers in making that series.

I was driving up the 101 Freeway in the early 80's, headed for Vandenberg AFB. Suddenly I realized I was passing a car carrier with a Hazard County Police Car, Daisy's Jeep, and Uncle Jesse's pickup. (Note: the series was not filmed in GA. It did not look like GA and was rather obviously the Western San Fernando Valley).

When I got to VAFB they said, "About time you got here! We've been looking for you! We called Los Angeles to find out what was going on."

I replied, "Shucks, folks, I was driving pretty fast. I even outran the Dukes Of Hazard getting here!"
