Flying WWII aircraft

I flew (as pilot) several WWII type aircraft; the B-24 (Navy PB4Y-1), the Privateer (Navy PB4Y-2, the F6F Hellcat, the C-45 (Navy SNB) and, too late to see action in the war: the F8F Bearcat and the TV-2 ( T-33). Questions have been raised as to wether we smoked in these aircraft. Yes we did, even on oxygen. Oh, add to the above list the C-47 (NavyR4D). Brad

Every crew position in a B-29 had an ashtray. They were all Ford Model 1936 ashtrays. If you look at a cockpit photo of the B-29, you can see the ashtray right in the middle of the pilot or co-pilot control panel. It's the circular object with a little dot (a knob) at the top.
