Hi all.

I am wondering if any photos exist of Fritz Losigkeit's Bf109E-1 'red 16'?

This aircraft is a very popular modelling subject yet I've never seen an actual photo of it?

Also, do any records exist of when the aircraft served in active combat? Was it shot down or crashed?

Thanks!

I know of three photos, one showing the starboard side (except tail), one fairly close up of Losigkeit climbing out of the cockpit taken from the port side (clearly showing the devil's head was on both sides) and a similar close up of him sitting in the cockpit taken from the starboard side.
It's all pretty standard. Most profiles make the devil's head far too small. The spinner tip does look a different colour, probably red, but I don't see any evidence of the black/white quarters shown in some.

The history is probably known. Don Caldwell's JG 26 War Diary might be a place to look.

Cheers

Steve

The two former photos mentioned by Steve along with a profile appear in Jagdwaffe Volume One Section 4.
