Hi.In the south of Russia, the crash site of the Fw 189 aircraft was found, a plate with the engine number was also found. Can I find out the plane by the engine number?P.S. At the crash site, I roughly understand which plane fell there, I would like to make sure more precisely.

By engine data plate it will be impossible. But with location and loss reports it is likely to get answers.

The Bundesarchive began to make the documents of the Luftwaffe squadrons freely available. For example, the first group JG 54 has all the engine numbers. There are even onboard weapons.I identified two Fw 190s that way.Example below.Motor No. 307204 .I thought maybe someone has such documents on Fw 189.
