Question for you p-47 Experts. My P-47D is Block 22 aircraft. Could these aircraft have either of the magnetos shown in the instructions? i have seen a restored P-47D with 1943 insignia (red band around the star and bar) and it had the round magnetos (C15) but most have the tear drop ones (C14)?
Trying to do some layman's research and from what I have found so far. The R2800-21's had the flat ignition harness and part C15. The later ones like the -59's had a tubular harnesses and part C14 for the Magnetos or the Turtleback Magnetos.
Tubular Ignition harness seen on later R2800's with teardrop magnetos.
Maybe some infos:
"If you're building a bubbletop P-47D (-25 and later block number) the GE "turtleback" magneto's are correct for the R-2800-59, B series engine (pictured below). If you're building the Razorback then you'll want the bendix-scintilla magnetos for the B series R-2800's that came equipped in the Razorbacks. You did not mention which kit you were building so I'm attempting to cover all the possible options."
Thanks Steph. The Tamiya kit carries the tubular ignition harness seen in the black and white photo above so looks like I have to use the tear drop magnetos.
Thanks Geo. I used .3mm lead wire and I don't know if its old and got brittle but a lot wires cut to put in place broke in half rendering them too short to use.
