Here kitty kitty kittyA couple notes of clarification: I am going to assume that if you don't include a specific time frame, all eras will be the default.T Bolt mentioned Pacific Theater, I take that to mean all Pacific Theatre unless you change it as a new entry.
Cats are planes with a feline element in the name
Hitting a thumbs up on a comment will not be counted, it's just too hard for me to go back to see what has been added days later. Take your time looking at existing ideas, list them and add new ones if you want.
I will define Prototype to be everything from unbuilt plans to built test aircraft any country and era.
I know that we are a WWII Aircraft forum and there will be WWII only builds to vote for. I also like to build jets and there are others like me so I like to have builds that include WWII aircraft but aren't limited to them.
There are 8 builds in a cycle, One of these will be a Specific build and I have a bias to add 1st to 6th Gen jets to each cycle starting with 1st. I hope to get about 16 items to get voted on.
Thank you everyone.
You lost me a CAT RIOT!I spent last night and this morning reading GB 58 and beyond to refresh how the lastcat riotmeasured discussion progressed and fooling around with the poll option in the forum. Based on that, I decided to try something new. I already have 28 options, some can be condensed and I'm sure the next week will add more. Instead of counting votes by tabulating who liked what idea, I am going to build a real poll with plenty of varied choices. On Friday 4/18 I will drop a poll that will run to Wednesday 4/30 with GB 66 kicking off the next day. Everyone will have 8 choices that you can change, and I will allow the totals to be viewed before you commit. Spoiler, Zombie/Favorite aircraft in your stash will be a choice. I'm sure most of you have a few unfinished or spare kits in a closet so you won't have to have something overnighted from Hannants. I feel that this is the most transparent and efficient way to give everyone a chance to see and vote on what they want to do for the next two years.
Actually Vic I think I agree. While I do enjoy the open era builds, we are a WWI2aircraft focused group by nature. Doing a couple open eras builds is ok but if we are to hold to the WW 2 theme than hold the majority of builds to that should be a prerequisite. I can in my mind see going out of the WWII if doing aircraft designs used after in Civil or military uses or just saying the wold wars. But I do agree that we should be more focused on the era.Sounds good to me Don. For myself I'd opt for having more of the WWII theater of operations i.e. Russia, Med, Pacific, B of B which always give plenty of scope and of course plenty of available model and decal options to choose from.![]()
I've gone through the suggestions, did a little combining and here is what I have so far. You will note some discussion about more WWII builds; some of the suggestions are that, some include, some exclude. For the ones that were not explicit in what era they are in; I would like to propose that in the voting, there will be 2 choices, that build will be split into only WWII and includes WWII. For example; Twin Engine. Historically, the ratio has been 6 only WWII, 2 inclusive, 1 exclusive. I'm going to start with the WWII only.
We all build the same. The suggestions have been almost all German and of the German, 109 and 190 predominate.
Russia vs Finland
Spanish Civil
Vehicle
1st Gen Jets I would like to use the table from Encyclopædia Britannica - Wikipedia specifically the column from Air Force Monthly. I think that Mig-15, F-86 are a different generation then WWII jets.
WWII warbirds post war This would be models in service that served in WWII. I would allow re-engined airframes.
Mid life crisisSimon Thomas proposed this but I don't see how this could be clearly defined. Almost every plane went through massive changes. This is on hold unless I get a clear understanding of what the intent is.
1939-1941 This is all theaters so China and Europe.
Hawks P-36 to P-40
These exclude WWII
Korea 1951-1953
Prop Vietnam
Russia vs Japan It's on the list but Wiki says the war with Japan started on 8/8/45 so finding markings is going to be iffy.
Helicopter I was torn about allowing WWII for this, but AFAIK there were no "operational" helicopters to the same extent as jets.
These were suggested as all era.
Mid East
Latin America
1914-1945
Russia 1937-1952
Home country I would like to make this a significant aircraft from your home country or home country markings and would like to know why in your build intro.
Zombie/Favorite aircraft IN YOUR STASH I want to see a picture of the box covered with dust in your attic.
Cats from Grumman/Feline in the name In honor ofCrimea_River
Prototype/Concept From built test aircraft to fanciful thought experiments; I'll allow that German flying saucer thingy.
These came without a clear era and will have 2 choices. The total of both will be summed for counting but the winner will be the most votes. I'm going to advantage WWII by saying it wins in a tie.
Reconnaissance, Transport; Training After mulling this over, I lumped them all together. I think it is a solid choice we don't often do and I don't think any one would garner enough votes to be included.
Twin Engine
Maritime These are navalised or primarily maritime operations.
Movie This one seems limited by marking options.
Kit BashSaparotRob Are we talking 2 kits or opening a machine gun bay?
Foreign Pilot in Foreign Plane
Pacific
Small Airforce
Natural Metal Finish I can't think of a lot of examples of this besides USAAF in 44-45 if it is limited to WWII so I lean to all era.
If there are any thoughts on how I should be running this, please send me a message. I'd rather not bog this down with process but if there are changes to be made, I will be clear about what is happening. There are an easy 25 choices that offer a lot of options and are easy to get kits/markings for. I said earlier that I would put the poll up on 4/20. I would like to move that schedule ahead to exactly sometime next week. When the suggestions taper off, I'll give two days notice and start the vote. Look these over, add something YOU would build, be as descriptive as you can, think outside the box, have fun and do your best.
Indeed, did not mean to cut short good sirMake that recon/transport/trainers![]()
