Just read this today. Anyone else see it too?

"The rusted remains of a Nazi-era submarine have been discovered off the coast of Java, Indonesia. Researchers are looking through the wreckage, which includes human bones and plates with Nazi insignia, for clues that could identify the ship.

Researchers have apparently discovered the remains of a World War II-era German U-boat and the skeletons of its crew off the coast of Indonesia. Experts say it's an unprecedented find that could provide insight into how the war was fought in the South West Pacific theater."

It's pretty far out from the U-boats usual field of operations. If it is the real deal, I assume it was on a special mission?

Ill have to check properly, but from memory therere were six or so U-Boats used on the Pacific theatre. At the end of the war, several were transferred to the japanese on Germany's surrender. One of these may have been scuttled or was sunk whilst on operations'

According to the article, it is likley to be U-168, lost 6 october 1944 with 23 men lost. The ship made 4 patrols in her careeer and sank about 4 ships during those patrols

Didnt the KM want their u-boats operating in the Indian Ocean to be resupplied from Japanese controlled ports?

U-Boots were operating in the Pacific as well.

It is the real deal as well. The Boat has Placards in German, and eating bowls were found with the Eagle and Swastika.
