Doing an essay on an event in US history post vietnam and need more info on the Gulf of Sidra incident in 1981. I know the basic stuff, 2 F-14s are flying are spot 2 Libyan SU-22 Fitters and then shoot them down, that whole thing. Looking for more info on the actual event. What happened to the pilots of both sides, consequences of the event, etc.

One of the F-14s involved (Fast Eagle 102 (BuNo 160403)) still exists today:

I interviewed "Music" and "Amos" at the Tailhook symposium that September. They were limited in what they could say publicly, of course, but it was clear that the Black Aces were in USN terms, an all-up round, and there was no shortage of confidence in how any combat would turn out.

Amos Anderson was killed in a freak skiing accident in 1989.
