But they were successful, operationally fielded aircraft. Why would the FAA take an aircraft that had been declined from an operational role by the RAF? Makes no sense whatsoever.

The specification that lead to the Fairey Barracuda was issued in 1937. Granted it took until Dec 1940 for the prototype to fly but the Henley would never have been more than temporary fill in aircraft that sucked up time and effort and delayed things even more than what happened.

This might sound like a strange question as I remember being told that the Fairey Battle was capable of a limited dive-bombing mission: What was the maximum dive-angle and load-factor?
