I haven't suggested chopping off the entire molded lamp. But just the tip and replace the piece with the reshaped LED embedded in the drilled hole. So the 2mm LED not passing thru a 1.4mm space .The retained light socket seems to be enough large to host the LED. But as I have mentioned it , the choice is yours.

First, I find navigating through all these massive Signatures a complete annoyance.
I find myself looking at images that don't seem to have any correlation to the topic,
and then (again) I realize I am just looking at another ridiculous Sig that takes up more space than the topic itself!
Why is this a thing on this forum?
Do you not see how they repeat over and over, filling up every available space in every thread?
Sorry, LOL, needed to vent about that. I'm active on dozens of forums, and I've never seen this allowed anywhere else.

I don't have the skills, the confidence, the tools, etc etc
What you've suggested is indeed cutting away a considerable amount of the part.
A part I only have one of.
I am even more concerned that the LED will not fit into the space.
I have even less experience with LEDs, I have no clue how to wire them up.
Soldering wires to them will be a new experience - will it fit after that?
And I'm still concerned about the space in the rudder for these wires and the electrodes to fit into.
It measures 1.4mm outside.
Which means the interior is considerably less, given the required plastic thicknesses.
I'd suggest only about .4mm at best?
I don't even have a drill bit that small! lol
The rudder you keep showing isn't the 1/24 part, is it?
And that means it is probably a little bulkier.
I think the 1/24 part is more to scale and therefore much thinner looking.
It is paper thin at the back end, and in the ribs of the rudder.
There just isn't room for the LED base.
The electrodes inside and outside the LED plastic are much wider than the dome
which will make it impossible to fit the LED from the outside of the assembled Rudder.
(I've already glued the two halves together, as I said)

I will be reluctantly disabling the Sigs.
I don't wish to get rid of any and all content found in Sigs, since some people have notable comments, phrases and quotes.
But these huge images get in the way of actual content. (At least, that's my take on it)
And I appreciate the effort to help with ideas.
I'm going to experiment with the fiber optic idea first and see how that turns out (before cutting on the actual rudder).
If it doesn't work, I may just drop the rudder light entirely. Pretend the taillamp bulb burned out.

Those huge signatures with multiple aircraft like @Wurger and
Crimea_River show that the person who made that particular post has participated in a group build for that type of aircraft.If your Hurricane fits in any of the current group builds your signature in future can include the graphic for that build. People with large collections are very knowledgeable of model building and have been there and done that as the saying goes.

I generally look at a person's avatar, and their post count on the boards, and any titles they've been given, to judge their status (on any message board).
This place has a good amount of info in the left column, I like it. I really don't need the extra stuff in their sigs.
I am in no way disrespecting the members or their achievements, but I am not the only one to find the large Signatures distracting.
Just the other day, it was mentioned on another forum I am a member of.
The infrequent visitor found them to be very much "in the way" of what was being discussed.
They often make it difficult to find the text and images in a thread.
I have literally given up and left early because I don't want to trundle through another page of the same sig images.
I've even seen Sigs here with large images and youtube videos, not just those smaller aircraft profiles!
It's something I've never seen allowed on other forums, and I've frequented hundreds of message boards.
But, as I've been shown, there is a way to disable the sigs (which I have done). Thank you.

Well, I decided to try out my idea, since i don't think an LED bulb will fit in this rudder part.
I have a fiber optic cable from my last TV purchase, so I cut it open and extracted the sleeved filament.
As I said, the filament itself is exactly 1mm in diameter (okay, maybe .995).
I don't have a 1mm drill bit, the closest I could find was .95mm. (1/32" I think?)
Anyway, I grabbed a thick piece of sprue plastic from the Hurricane kit and drilled a hole.
I drilled by hand, using a normal knife handle (they make great pin vises, I have a number with slightly different size collets),
but because of the drill's size, it flexed and wobbled a lot, making a hole that was a tad loose for the 1mm filament.
I inserted the filament and allowed it to stick out a bit, trimmed the end clean, and put a bit of plastic cement on it.
Then pulled it back into the sprue plastic until it was flush.
Then I put a blob of the same glue over the end (to see if it affected the light glow).
Then I held the other end of the filament up to my smartphone torch, and voila!
Let there be light!
lol fiber optics always amaze me.
It's tricky to keep the filament properly aligned with the lamp, but it gets real bright when i do.
So this told me my method was sound, all I needed to do now was drill a 1mm hole through my rudder part.
A small hole like that would be easier to repair if I flubbed it.
The trick is making sure the hole is perfectly aligned, because the 1.4mm thick rudder left no room for deviation.
Things went good at first, drilling into the light to start, but I did deviate slightly and I noticed some plastic distortion when I got to the light base.
I quickly switched to the front end of the rudder and drilled from that dirrection.
Luckily the passage met in the middle, and with a little effort, I was able to force the filament through.
I did the same thing as with the sprue test, I put a little glue on the filament end and left it to dry.
I've got about a foot of cable in front of the rudder, so plenty to trim later, after I figure out how and where to connect it to an LED source.
But as you see, the rudder light looks great!
Once it's all painted up, it should look like the real thing.

The little round Pico size would still have been a problem in the rudder location, but might be of interest for other locations on the aircraft.

Came in a long case, about 30 or 40 bits.
