I thought this one would be a good one to show after my He-112
The He-100D was a fighter design by all accounts better than the Bf 109, but was not produced in favor of the 109 for various reasons depending who is telling the story. Anyway only 19 were built. One set the world speed record on March 13, 1939 and briefly held it until April 26, 1939 when the Me 209 took the record. The He- 100D wad used as a propaganda tool by Joseph Gobbles by being publicized at the new "He-113 fighter". The small number of He100Ds were flown to various German airfields and painted in various paint schemes and photographed for publication.
The model By HiPM is a typical limited run kit with finely engraved panel lines and very limited detail in the cockpit.
Thanks everyone!
Migrant: I don't remember the specific colors as I made the model several years ago, but I know they were Model Master enamels in RLM colors.
Andy: Yes that's something to think about as it sound like the performance was far above that of the Bf 109. Of the various reasons for not producing it I think the one that rings truest is that it had a more complicated structure than the 109, therefore could not be produced in the same numbers as the 109. Who's to say they were wrong. Some of Germanys top ace's went through aircraft like a surgeon goes through rubber gloves. If the 109 wasn't there to be produced in those massive numbers those men would have been standing on the ground looking up at the allied bombers. (Although my father wouldn't have minded as he flew in B-24's)
Are there any more of those kits available ot there some where I missed this one a few years back when I wasn't able to model. I REALY LOVE THI PLANE !!!! Thanks Tim
