My sweet Barbie has a torn ACL and the vet suggested surgery without even offering alternatives. I can't afford the cost so I've wondered about setting up a go fund me account for her. I know that it seems like a stupid idea but I don't sh!t gold unfortunately. Any and all suggestions are welcomed.

Try a vet university to get the surgery done. My Cane Corso cost almost 3K$. They would do it for much less.For example..College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences - Colorado State University
 
First of all don't be afraid to ask your vet about other options. If they state surgery is the only route then get a 2nd opinion from another vet. Sometimes that type of injury can be treated with a special type of brace. Cheaper but can take longer to heal.

If surgery is the only route Jim is spot on about CareCredit, you can even apply for it online. When I ran an Vet Emergency Clinic, we had clients apply and use it all the time.

AT6 Hanna's has had both of hers done and you are right it's not cheap first doc wanted $3K(leg) I waited (stretched) and found a Vet for $1200 an hour's drive but hey!.It was not even six months later after recovery she snapped the other leg's tendon now it was $1400 but my Vet gave me a break some.The cost of 3K a leg is tough to bear my Sis found enough out there doing them for $1500 and why I kept on looking.The recovery from the torn tendon is longer than the stretched one at least in Hanna's case.I drop her back off on 1/17/19 for the last adjustment on the artificial tendon he stressed six month's after the initial no sooner.I have never done a GFM but probably worth an effort lots of animal people out there but be thinking about the other leg!
 
Look into payment plans. Our oldest cat had to have her thyroid removed a few years ago. Was well over $1,000. While I could afford it, I still set up a payment plan. Most Vets know that people cannot just throw that kind of money out, but they will still treat your pet, and work on an affordable payment option.
 
Thanks for the answers. I'm looking into getting her a leg brace for her knee. I know that healing will take longer this way but the nearest college is UC Davis north of Sacramento.
Barbies is walking on the leg and I haven't had to pop the patella back in, so a brace might actually be the way to go. She's on Dasuquin now and it already seems to be helping with recovery.
