C'est vrai! Fortunately for those with delicate aesthetic sensibilities, French designers subsequently produced some very attractive aircraft (Dewoitine D.520, the Arsenal prototypes, the LeO 451 series, etc.). The French Navy went through a similar process post-WW1, going from possessing some truly hideous monstrosities, to the elegant, Dunkerques, La Galissonieres, Le Terribles, etc.
