I'm doing a research project on the R100 and its flight to Canada. Two sites, this blog and airshipsonline.com, say that the stove failed on the flight from Montreal to Cardington. The blog also says that the lights and heating failed, but there is no mention of this on airshipsonline. Airshipsonline notes that "Some dairies of crew and journalists noticed this discomfort for 3 days" and the blog mentioning the temperature in the cabin, what the meals were supposed to be, and what they actually were. Both sites say that their sources are some variation on "diaries from the crew and passengers," however they don't give any links to websites or references to books. I have found the 2009 edition of Nevil Shute's book Slide Rule (I have also found Airship on a shoestring by John Anderson, but it mostly seems to quote Neville Shute), but it doesn't mention the loss of the stove, instead saying that the journey was uneventful.
Did the stove fail or not? Are there any other sources on the flights of the R100?
