Welcome aboard, Paul! Just stumbled across this thread. Awesome job!
Brings back memories. My training device unit in the Navy was tasked with building a cockpit mock-up of an SH3 helicopter. After a couple of weeks of sweating and slaving, we presented it to the base CO, whose response was: "Where's the functionality? I ordered a cockpit procedures trainer! Fix it on the double!" Turned out to be easier than we thought. We whipped up some circuit boards with integrated circuits that could drive the engine instruments and an audio amp that would simulate engine startup, and caged some unairworthy gyros and a couple altimeters from the junk bin in OMD. We were ordered on Monday to fix it, and delivered it on Friday. Thank God The Man didn't insist on duplicating startup and alignment of the inertial and Doppler systems.
The Spitfire is a little less complicated than a twin engine helicopter, and you could probably get away with just simulating engine start, mag check, and revving and exercising the prop.
Once again, awesome job!
Cheers,
Wes.
