Italian series 5/6 fighters really better?

On wonders why the LW people will claim that Italian 5 series were not suited for the Jabo role.

I already gave you the significant advantages - they where wholly better than the Bf 109. They would put up a much better fight against the Griffon Spitfires and P-51D than the 109 was able to, that alone is enough to warrant their consideration at the very least.

The 109K variant was competitive against those two in ACM to the very end and it was about the Fiats and Reggianes not being better enough, if at all, to displace the Focke Wulf developments.
They were more complex to build and the rigs and tooling for their production would have to be provided which would have affected the already stretched-out German industrial capacity.
Imho Fw 190D and Ta 152 brought everything to the table the Luftwaffe wished to have for a last-generation piston-engine fighter platform.

Actually thought about that, mind you.
Maybe the German preference for their... preferences.. were too overpowering.

I can't really add much to this discussion, but damn, those Italian fighters in this class were good looking aircraft.

The rearward-positioned cockpit gives them a sleek longnose-look. Usually a good sign wrt fighter aesthetics.
