bit unlucky to be looking for information on a chap who is called smith!!

I know how that feels. I had two relatives whose careers I researched. One Smith and one Turner,two of the most common English surnames,1st and 28th on the list :)

It could be worse. I was told that in Welsh regiments there were/are so many Jones,Williams,Davies,Evans and Thomas that soldiers gave the first three numbers of their eight digit service number after their names to help sort out whose who. They may well still do it.

No 6 Observer Air Navigation School seems a suspect for the Staverton based unit.

If anyone has "RAF Flying Training and Support Units" by Ray Sturtivant it would probably have some details of what they got up to and when.
