Last Boeing C-17 built in Long Beach takes flight as California aerospace era ends

From today's LA Times.

In 1981, I remember the jobs available sections in the Sunday papers. Whole sections devoted to aerospace jobs.

There is still lots of opportunities in this business here. But its mostly the engineering and research jobs. And you have to have the college degree's for it.

I also recall the aerospace industry all over the region, a great deal of them being in Orange county, too.

It seems that the bubble burst in the 70's and has been in a steady decline, since then.

And not just the aerospace industry, but military/defense industry has been in decline in the southland as well.

I was at the first flight, seems like yesterday - man I feel old!

How do I know my youth is all spent?
My get-up-and-go has got up and went!
But, in spite of it all, I'm able to grin

When I was young, my slippers were red;
I could kick up my heels right over my head.

I get up each morning and dust off my wits,
Open the paper, and read the Obits.
If I'm not there, I know I'm not dead,
So I eat a good breakfast and go back to bed!
