Senior Airman
In the eigthies I came across a M_26 (ex-Belgian) in the Technik Museum Sinsheim West Germany.
The only kit existing at that time was the ugly M-46 from Lindberg in 1:32 scale. I discarded this kit and tried to scratch a M-26 from two Italeri M-47s.
The originals:
This one was taken at Spearhead Museum of the US-Army in Frankfurt West Germany (later it moved to Baumholder).
Two more pics of the real thing:
This all happened before digital photography so excuse the quality of the pics.
The kit:
I used two of the M-47s because I needed two more return rollers. The M-47 got a new frontplate because it differs heavely from the M-26 one. The turret is from the old Easy Eight of Tamiya modified to the M-26 one. The coverplate of the gun stems from the engine of an old Airfix Black Widow. (Last year I used up parts of the fuselage for my FW 190 V-18) Don't throw away things when you are out for scratchbuilding. The gun barrel itself was turned on a lathe from alluminium rod. The enginecompartpent of the M-47 only could serve for a M-46 so I bulid it from plasticcard plasticrod an a good amount of superglue. The Hunnicut of the M-26 was essential to do this.
I still have this 25 year old model and took it last year to the Berlin Gatow model fair where I got some Digi shots of it. Will post them next time.
At last the finished model.
The jeep is a Heller kit slightly modified. Soldieirs mostly are ex Monogram halftrack crew.
