A bit out with some of his dates - Airfix, although founded in 1939, did not start producing model kits commercially until 1952, previously, they manufactured plastic combs.
Italeri was originally Italstamp, soon known as Italieri, and founded in 1962, not 1978. The name was shortened to Italeri for easier pronunciation.
Revell was a brand name of the parent company, founded in 1943, not 1955, although large-scale production of plastic model kits didn't fully commence until the mid 1950s.

Thank you for sharing that insight. Always wondered about those kits. By any chance do you know the status of Monogram or Eduard?

I once read that Sir Peter Jackson -director of the popular Lord of the Rings movie- founded the popular WingnutWings plastic modeling company.

Monogram merged with Revell in 1986, and Eduard was founded in 1989, both still producing kits of course, with Revell production in Germany.
Yes, Wingnut Wings was founded by Sir Peter Jackson.
Thank you!
