I worked with him in the early 2000s and socialised for a few years after, but lost touch. Another piece of my youth gone.

My condolences on the loss of your friend.

Klaus Schulze has died.

He was a pioneer of electronic music, including brief collaborations with Tangerine Dream and Ash Ra Temple.

It is impossible to overestimate the influence of the German electronic music pioneers of the '60s and '70s on what became the popular music of the following decades.

Not all Klaus's music was easy, but of his early albums I'd suggest giving 'Timewind' a listen. It was one of the first albums to exploit sequencers, in a similar way to Edgar Froese (Tangerine Dream).

Mickey Gilley passed yesterday. The older of my little sisters met him and most of his band while she was on a high school trip to Washington DC back in the early 80's. She managed to pull of a heck of a fan fun thing, on him and the band. She politely asked to get a photo with him and the band members that were sitting around her group at a museum video. They were kind enough to do so, and talked with the group for a few minutes. Back home, Carol took the film to be developed and had a nice sized copy of the group photo printed. She signed it to Mickey and the band and then sent it to his office. A couple of years later, in an interview, you could see that photo hanging on the wall, just behind his desk.

His 'Time Actor' as done by 'Richard Wahnfried' is a favourite too.

Today is a bad day.

We have lost 'Fletch', Andy Fletcher, of Depeche Mode. I toured with Depeche Mode in the nineties and thus knew Fletch, if not well. He was only sixty years old.

Also gone is Alan White. Obituaries all seem to rate him best known for his work with Yes, but I would suggest that his work with just about everyone else was as important. White recorded with ex-Beatles Lennon and Harrison as well as Joe Cocker and a host of others, from Paul Kossoff, to Denny Laine, to Billy Preston. He wasn't one to seek the limelight but was one of Britain's most solid and reliable drummers.

I'd read of Fletcher's death, but had no idea at all White had died too. One hell of a drummer.
