Just saw this photo of the new release and was kinda floored by the first option...
Robert Clothier played the gruff but lovable character "Relic" on an old CBC series called "The Beachcombers"

Doing some research I find out that he piloted many different aircraft while stationed in England during the war. He returned to Canada, serving with the No. 5 Operational Training Unit, Boundary Bay, B. C. While there he was the sole survivor of a B-25 he was flying that crashed on take-off. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on December 5, 1944
