Thank you for allowing me to join this group. I'm looking to identify a rear tailwheel which I believe is from a Spitfire. My father took it as a souvenir whilst scrapping aircraft whilst serving in the RAF in the early 1950's. Would someone please point me to the correct forum page so I can upload details. Many Thanks
Smiffy

The hub number is AHO 5031/IX what with the tyre size may indicate a Hurricane rather than the Spitfire. But the AHO 5031 was used amongst others, for Gladiator, Miles Master, Martinet. As memo serves the AHO 5000 was for Hawker Hurricane Mk I and Proctor. The AHO 5048 for Hurricane Mk II. The AHO 5008 for Anson. The AHO 5007 for Blenheim, Lysander III Whirlwind, Typhoon and also Firebrand according to my notes.

Oh.. OK. I didn't noticed that the two pics were of the different side and thought it's a double attachement.

See my post #5 then.

BTW... the tail wheel hub for Spitfire was AH 2184.

That is fascinating information thank you. My father told me that he was taking both Hurricane, and Spitfire plus some mosquito parts to the dump on this occasion. It will be great to find out as much information as possible. He also retrieved some. MK7 goggles and various other instruments but I have still to find them. So my wheel could possible be from A Hawker Hurricane then rather than a Spitfire?
