Hello,

I would like to build a P-47D (bubbletop) in 1/48 scale. My grandfather flew one during the war (as an instructor only - he didn't see combat), and I plan on making custom labels to match the aircraft he was photographed in.

There are several kits on the market. I usually build WW1 aircraft, so I really have little basis on which to choose the best kit - does anyone have opinions?

(The plane he was photographed flying was specifically a P-47D-40-RA. The kits I've seen mostly seem to be P-47D-20 or P-47D-30 variants, though I assume they could be modified as needed.)

thanks,

chris

Hasegawa makes a 1/48 P-47D-30/40. Kit #09141

I have this kit and though it isn't mentioned anywhere in the instructions, the dorsal fillet is included

And for what it's worth, I can get it on Amazon for less than $US 30.

I can support the votes for the Tamiya kit. Indeed, it is seldom possible to go wrong with Tamiya WWII kits.
