Has anyone noticed paint is in short supply. I'm finding it hard to find one online shop that has all the colors for one build, forget a local shop.

I don't know what paint you're using, for the little modeling I do I use acrylics and sometimes I'll use all purpose acrylics if I can't find a specific color.

I've been looking for all the colors for an SBD and F4U, I found an AK International set in stock. But your suggestion of hobby acrylics sounds like an option.

I have found at most Hobby Lobbies their selection is huge. I've taken color swatches and matched up what they have.

I read an article on using hobby acrylics in Model Railroader, but never thought to use on airplane kits. I have used hobby paints on restoration of Matchbox cars. I thinned the paint to use in airbrush.

I've used them on and off over the years. Always use a primer base (it could be hobby enamel), if you don't, make sure the surface is clean, but I'd recommend a primer coat first.

It's the enamels that have dried up. Model Master is gone thanks to Rustoleum who owns Testors and there are few other enamel lines. Humbrol is still around but is weakly supported. Revell I think has a line but with very few colors. If you want acrylics, you can get those all day but I find them useless. They clog up my airbrushes, they don't stick and they have no wet out since they dry so fast.

Like you I cannot adapt to acrylic paint for the same reasons and in a hot climate (our summer) they dry in seconds even with approved spray dilutant. Mostly I use Humbrol enamel but also have specialised metallic paints from AK Interactive xtreme range and for very specialised colours I have some Zero Paints (readily spray diluted). Outside of that I do have some long held Model Master, Testor and Tamiya paints used for brush applied detail, the latter being readely available in our local market if needed.

I use strictly acrylics and have no problem with clogging or paint lifting
