The Pave Tack pod underneath the F-111F is supposed to have a forward-looking infrared (FLIR) window which is a milky amber color. My plan was to paint the backside of the clear piece Middle Stone and then front side using one of the Tamiya Clear colors. The Middle Stone isn't a bad approximation for the overall tone but it's just slightly off. I tried airbrushing a test piece with Tamiya Clear Orange and it just doesn't look right. I'm currently experimenting on dipping the piece into a small amount of Future and Tamiya Clear orange, mixed about 50/50 but so far the color isn't intense enough.

Anyone have any suggestions? Use a different clear color? Clear Smoke perhaps? Try a different application technique?

And here's a pic of the real thing, to show you what I am shooting for.
