my photos of a T-28 that had a bad moment at my home airport. The pilot touched down and promptly developed a nasty nose wheel shimmy.
The T-28 has a pronounced negative angle of incidence on the gear and they can get the shimmy, fail the gear, flip over and give the trapped crew a roasting.
The pilot chose to retract the gear.

The front end and gear reduction snapped off and departed, and the aircraft started a small fire in the grass along the runway.

Looks like it went left as it went. There was a little burn through in the lower cowl but not a full on conflagration.

The left wing took a beating and it would be better to start with a donor wing IMO.
