Check Marga von Etzdorf in the www. She flew the plane in 11 days between 18 August and 29 August 1931.The little plane flew FROM Tokyo? How did it get to Tokyo? How often did it have to refuel. Inquiring minds want to know "the rest of the story."
All photos from this collection are interesting - I already wrote about some of them, looking for a Meyers Aircraft & Co. plane. The longer title of the collection is " Civil air patrol student pilots at Silver Lake airfield near Baker California 1944".Death Valley Flyers BW photo 8 the net

Are you part of that group on Instagram? I checked the colorized photos and the originals of John Forea in the LIFE collection. I believe these photos have been made in May, 1944, not in 1943. This is at least the LIFE-information.More Missing Details: Ghosts of the Battlefield is proud to announce our newest exhibit, The Death Valley Flyers, celebrating the remarkable women of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) program during World War II. In 1943, LIFE magazine photographer John Forea accompanied a group of prospective WASP pilots on a camping and flying excursion into California's Death Valley. His photographs captured these young aviators against the dramatic desert landscape, preserving moments of friendship, confidence, and adventure before many of them would go on to serve their nation during wartime.
