This is why I love this site. There is always something new to learn. They are from the 493rd BG. Found the same source three times, so to get back to my Hiryu, I won't spend anymore time on this since it's outside of my specified interest space.

If you watched the dreadfully researched Masters of the Air, it got several things correctly - one of which, namely, that the Square D is the symbol for the Bloody 100th Bomb Group.

If that is actually an escort carrier, that is a rare shot with non folding wing SBD's on board!

Seemingly the crewman ran up the fuselage of the B-24 and bailed out,the plane exploded 41-29508, hit over Vienna.Co-pilot Lt Harry Mandorf, wounded, and Herbert A Wilson, gunner, escaped out the same hatch. Bombardier Lt. John Schwartz, trapped in the ship falling in spin, found himself floating in the air after the plane exploded. One chute was entangled in the tail, others had chutes on fire or not opened, and 7 were KIA: pilot Lt Frederick B Smith, Lt Bronislaus F Budriunas, the gunners Edward W Redford, John W Summers, Weldon B Carter, Antonio C Beja, Leonard J Di Matteo.(By MACR 6095)
