For sure not the Bf 109D-1 but E-3a. The small air intake behind the spinner at the bottom of the "nose" then the larger, rectangular one with a bar. The bulges on the undersides at the armament location and the protruding barrels of the Oerlikon FF-K kal. 20 mm cannons. What is more the two underwing radiators symmetrically positioned at the trailing edge of the wings. No doubt the Emil.

I have trouble making out the details but could it be that the spinner was removed? That might make it appear as a radial. When I saw the "blown up " picture I first thought Bf109 or Spitfire landing gear.
The landing gear geometry just ain't American to my ignorant eyes.

I agree. It is the Hispano-Suiza HS.404 20mm cannon feeding mechanism with a belt de-linker. Something like the AN-M1 or AN-M2 feeding mechanism as memory serves.
