Actually I think it was used by the South Koreans and then marked by the USAF to make it less likely to get shot down. I wonder if anyone thought of using it to intercept the North Korean PO-2 biplanes when they attacked at night.
Yes, that is a T-33A tank all right, although the F-94 used the same tank. USAF T-33A tip tanks had instructions printed on the tip tanks for using the tank on F-94.
Of course the T-33A dd not have an air refueling capability, so that was probably a photo mission.
I had a USAF instructor in 1960 who flew those missions in Korea. He commented how the AA seemed to just float in the air until you realised they were floating right through your wing.
It's kinda funny how with the T-6G upgrade they took the wing and cowl mounted guns out. Then they sent them to war. I don't guess a single .30 cal would have done much but it would do more than nothing.
