I learned something today, I did not know the Dutch Navy operated an CVE equipped with Fireflies and Barracudas for a 3-4 year period post WWII. They had an interesting mix of markings on the Fireflies. They later carried the new Dutch Roundels. The last color shot of a Radar equipped version is also interesting.

Someone showed a picture of a F-5, saying it was an actual shot of a new fighter Iran was producing. I was rather suspicious of the picture, given the Southeast Asia camo job, but what really did it in was the F-100 in an adjacent revetment.

A competitor to the winning Beech T-34 in a 1947 competition for a new trainer was the Fairchild XNQ, or T-31 as it was also known. Two prototypes were built, one crashed and the other was donated to the CAP and restored in the early 1990's. The military decided they needed to use a nosegear to be compatible with jet training and to use something more modern than radial engines. The sole survivor was donated to the Hagerstown Aviation Museum.

The former HMS Venerable, sold to the Dutch in 1948, renamed HNLMS Karel Doorman.
Modernized in 1955-58 with 8° angled flight deck and steam catapult.
She first operated Firefly strike fighters and Sea Fury fighters until she began her modernization, then Avengers and Sea Hawks. In 1960 the Avengers were replaced by Trackers, which were operated until the ship was sold in 1969. In 1964 the Sea Hawks were landed, being replaced by H-34 ASW helos.

In 1969 Argentina bought her, recommissioning her as ARA Veinticinco de Mayo.
