I recall reading that when the B-45 was used for recon missions over Korea they fixed the tail machine guns, one pointed up, one pointed down, and had a switch to turn them on. They usually switched them on as they were homeward bound, over the Sea of Japan, thus eliminating the need to de-arm the airplanes.

This plane is flying south of Palos Verdes, South Los Angeles County. The port of LA is on the extreme lower right edges. Below the drop tank at the waters edge is where today's Palos Verdes landslide is occurring. In fact, if you notice the cleared area below the front of the tank, that is where the excavation that triggered it all was located. Above the jet, first band of dark hills, is the Hollywood Hills. Above the canopy, the wide beach is where Playa Vista is. In which LAX would be built.
